Curry by moonlight

The day started with the usual discussion as to who will drive. I never thought that I would be arguing who drives with somebody that has only driven a few times in her life. So Vica drove to the Chisos Mountains in the centre of the park and we hiked the Lost Mine Trail. This has to be one of the most enjoyable hikes with a good group of people to chat to on the way up. We did enjoy the sign on mountain lions, if you see a lion you have to 'act large'.

'We' drove the scenic Ross Maxwell drive to Sanata Elena Canyon passing old volcanoes, a stunning view of Chisos, canyons and desert. The view of Vica's back was a regular occurrence of mine and Jo's on the trip and the trek to Santa Elena canyon was no different.

There was a weird theme on who drives when, Vica in the daytime doing the scenic routes and Keela at nightime in the dark. We raced back to Rio Grande Village and yet again blagged a place to stay. Vica and I went for a bath in the hot springs under another full moon and clear skies while Jo was invited to join the 'spring breakers' we were sharing a campground with. Curry for dinner, this time at 11pm by moonlight.

notice that for ms keela a good hike is not quite what it would be for most people. some go hiking for the view, the scenery, for the change of dimensions, for the feeling of freedom, for escaping city life, for having peace, or for getting rid of people. not ms keela. she goes there to chat people up. regardless of age, gender, nationality or hiking shoes.

ms keela, for future reference, you may not want to 'act' large but appear large -- i know it has no meaning to you a person defaulting to lion-proof by definition, but in case you hike with us ;)

as for the who drives when bit. now now ms keela, we both know that whoever drives cannot quite look at the scenery or shell run us into a hill, a moose, or a shrove of cacti. so i was doing you great favour driving at the daytime. on the other hand, what on earth would you like to gawk at at nighttime :)

Now readers, do you see why Ms Vica was shoved out of the car to grovel for a peice of campground and convince them that we should stay? A favour my eye :)

Besides, Ms Keela was not only given the night driving fun times was she. She was also responsible for all 4 wheel drive tracks, especially at night time. What our Hungarian missed out is that the Hot Springs is situated along a 4 wheel drive track with fairly big drop on the drivers side and no fence. I hated it the first time we did it...but 5 times!!!!! However, it was the only time that I could get to drive. The day always started with me asking who was going to drive even though I knew the answer :P
