Snowdrops of Anglesey Abbey

Something I love about being on Shared Parental Leave is being able to go to places with very few people. So I was really surprised when I reached Anglesey Abbey and couldn't find a car space. It was heaving! There were people everywhere. Little did I know that I arrived on the day of the big snowdrop walk around the estate. So I followed suit and chose the path of the snowdrop walk around the Winter Garden. Oh my gosh, I've never seen so many snowdrops in my life. The smell of honeysuckle was so good that I decided to go to one section twice to sniff the air! It's so amazing to see the colours if the garden after a drab winter.

A glorious walk through the woodland to the mill, the house and back to the visitor centre for the obligatory refreshment break. A great visit. I will be back.

Blue plaques of Cambridge

I do love blue plaque spotting. Today I visited Cambridge again to scout out the plaques of
  • Henry Fawcett
  • Millicent Garrett Fawcett (now an independent school)
  • Announcement of the discovery of DNA
  • New Hall
  • Newnham College (alas I didn't find it but I visited the college)
  • Home of the Darwin family
I found a great website for fellow blue plaque spotters. https://www.cambridgeppf.org/Pages/FAQs/Category/people-with-blue-plaques

A visit to St Neots Museum

St Neots Museum was previously a police station and law court. You first walk through the cells and then upstairs to the local history section of the museum. Unfortunately Reyka had other ideas so instead we just stuck to the bottom floor. I found out something new. John Bellingham was born in St Neots in 1776. He is famous for assassinating the Prime Minister (Spencer Perceval) in the lobby of the House of Commons!
