Bletchley Park - An inspiring day

What an amazing day, it's probably one of the best exhibitions I've ever been to. The attention to detail is amazing, from the moment you arrive and the train decoration, the video's on the wall and the old style ticket desks. Then you are given your multimedia player, which shows video, old photographs and has interviews with former code breakers. You wander around at your own pace, I had to listen to every commentary and not miss a single thing. The park is really in the middle of nowhere, in a suburb. It made me think about how it must have felt when the code breakers arrived. It's likely that the houses around the park weren't even there. When we arrived, there was no big board or name on top of the building, it's subtle and that goes through the entire day.

We walked through the house first, which was like walking around the set of the Imitation Game. Part of the house was converted into the bar in the film, they had clothes from the film and the multi media guide had interviews with the actors. What an amazing film, seeing it recently and then going to Bletchley Park, just cemented so many thoughts in my head. Thoughts of how it must have been in those days, the secrecy of people not knowing more than they need to. The population was three quarters women. The Bombe room where the computer was held was noisy and dark, as it would have been. We saw Alan Turings office, each of the huts had incredibly moden computer systems where you tap walls and tables instead of tapping a computer screen.

The attention to detail was phenomenal. I was fascinated by every plug, light switch and telephone. Thank goodness for the season ticket, we will be back.
