Iceland wedding: we sadly leave Iceland, but as a married couple

The last day of winter wonderland wedding phase one. We started the day with the amazing Hotel Ranga breakfast, then while everyone left for the airport, we sat in the hot tub watching the river and chatting about why we love Iceland so much. We love the peacefulness, the rugged landscape, the people are so friendly, and the isolation is what we adore. We sat in the hot tub, in our hats. 2.5 years ago, Ali proposed in a hot tub, in Hotel Ranga. Back to our suite, then we sadly had to leave.

The ice was incredibly thick on the windscreen, after a few clear nights, the temperature has plummeted. On the way back the temperature went down to minus 6. We met mum and dad at the airport, met team Elvis, team Saunders and half of team shackell in departures where they met Father Christmas and had carol singers! Onto the plane, and we sadly said goodbye to Iceland for the third time, but it won’t be the last. On the plane, I reflected what an amazing time we had .The professionalism of Hotel Ranga, and in particular, Hugrun is absolutely amazing. There were no faults with the wedding, it all went like clock work.

We arrived back in the UK, tired but married. Sadly, Ali left her kindle on the plane and someone took it so rushing around Heathrow late at night to find Icelandair wasn’t fun. On the tube, we met lots of drunk people on a Christmas night out, who asked us whether we were ‘prepared for the weather’. I think our big blue coats gave us away. We had quite a long chat with a drunk group of men.

Back home at midnight, and back into a freezing cold house. So cold, we kept our Iceland clothes on.
