Iceland Wedding: Superjeep on wedding eve

What do all brides do on their wedding eve???? Go on a superjeep tour! Our first night at Hotel Ranga. This time we have a deluxe room with a veranda and sofa, it’s wonderful, especially the Jacuzzi bath. This morning we were on a magical mystery tour. The hotel took care of everything for us, even booking our excursions. Thing is, I never asked what we were doing on the superjeep but Hugrun booked us a treat. We were picked up at the hotel in a monster truck, then first visited a gorgeous waterfall called the ‘windows’. David, Jeannie, Ali and I were on the trip with two others from the hotel. At the waterfall, Magnus let down the tyres for the next bit of the trip. Little did we know that we had no roads, we just went right, off the road, onto the gravel and rocks of the glacial rivers, and then through the river! There was complete silence, the water was up to the windows! It was amazing. At one point, we were vertical so I could see the sky and not the land!

We first visited a gorgeous gorge, snow up to our knees. We walked into the gorge, but when it came to crossing rivers, I chickened out and walked slowly back. We then visited Porsmork, a camp ground in the summer time. I’ve always wanted to visit it, but it’s hard to get to. We went for a walk through the park which took 40 minutes. Walking through knee deep snow was fantastic but exhausting! As we descended, we had to walk down a number of stairs. However, they were covered in ice! I adopted a sideways, hold yourself up on the bannister approach. I later needed this approach for the wedding day!
We were then taken to a hut where candles and a picnic basket lunch were laid. We had hot drinks, Skyr and cookies. Inside the building, you could actually see your breath. Back on the superjeep, through the most amazing landscape, including a lake that is no longer a lake, as the lake wall was broken, causing a major flood. It’s now a dry lake bed, which we drove over. We visited a glacier, the first I’ve ever been to. Jeannie was  a gazelle jumping over rocks in the river, but David, Ali and I took a slow walk back to the superjeep as we were freezing! However, back at the superjeep, all we could hear was cracking, almost like an avalanche was happening. It’s quite an eerie noise. Back on the superjeep, we visited Seljalandsfoss, where our wedding pictures were taken, then back to the hotel. We left at 10 and got back at 5. For a magical mystery tour, it was absolutely amazing and we can’t wait to come back to Ranga and go on another. Southcoast superjeep tours are fantastic, definitely doing that again.

A quick turn around, then our rehearsal dinner, with the dress Carol made for me, and Ali’s tailored suit. We had a private dining room, it was like a big Christmas dinner with all the family! We announced our new name and had the most amazing time on the eve of our wedding.
