Mango or Mat

Yet another gorgeous day, can this be england???? The first stop of the day was Tintagel castle, home to the legendary King Arthur. Built on a headland the castle has a fantastic view over the cornish coastline. After Tintagel we headed as south as we could get, to Lands End. I asked Miss Vica in advance what she thought Lands End would be like. A magical, mysterious place.....um, this soon changed to disney land when she saw it. I'm not a big fan of lands end with its tourist attractions barely related to lands end and more related to making money. We had to stand by the obligatory lands end sign post where we had the distance to Ilkley, that well known place but what I can tell you is that its 453 miles from Lands end :) Then it was time to get out of disneyland and take a wonder along the southwest coastal path to Sennen, a truly magical place of white sand and crystal blue sea but we didn't have chance to enjoy it, we had a date with the theatre.

The Minack Theatre is an ampitheatre set into a cliff (http://www.minack.com/). We thought that gettng there 2 hours before would be plenty of time but no, people were already queing for the best seats so while miss vica queued, I queued for reserve tickets and we were in luck. 2 tickets, £7 each fairly near the front to se 'summer holiday'. By this time miss vica was sick of her hair in her face but luckily we brough the trusty roll mat so we had the elastic from that which fitted Miss vica's head perfectly making her look like she should be in alice and wonderland. However, multimat was written on this wonderful accessory which meant that miss vica was either called Mat or Um (mango in Bangla i think). This I found very amusing :)

We left the theatre at 10.30 without a place to stay and without directions but after driving up what appeared to be a footpath rather than a road we found a campsite and put up the tent. Oh and cooked noodles (including the grass around the corner). There is nothing like having curry noodles at midnight. I will give you one guess whose idea that was :)

land's end... what a grim sight. disneyland at its best, with amusement park rides with merlin and you would expect goofy and pluto any moment to shake hands with. the end of medieval europe (as they knew it) gets the proper view back however in a few minutes walk along the coastline, where the cliffs drop into the ocean leaving nothing for the eyes but the blue of the sea and that of the sky (thats 'cerulean' for you ms keela :)).

mango or mat, says she. she who usually goes either by 'kiwi' (nickname by the brownies) or 'dave' (i'll let her explain that) -- now need i say more. really. :)

for the lingustically curious: the mango comes from the fact that i turned the band inside out thinking it would render it unreadable, and the few letters sticking out (MA) were only mirrored and just as readable as before (AM), which in turn reminded me of the bangla mango, 'am'.

as for curry cooked on a portable hotplate at midnight, seasoned with burnt and smoked grass. youre cold and hungry. youve put up your tent somewhere in the dark. now you have two options: either going to bed (that is, sleeping bag) cold and hungry and miserable in general, or you resort to some unusual cooking facilities, times and diet choices. needless to say ms keela was only criticising my choice until the hot curry reached her lips. then silence came to them :)
