Bamburgh castle - A good dose of sea air

My morning started very early with Penny waking me at 5:30! So we had an early walk along the lane to Chillingham Castle and Cattle Park. Alas, neither allow dogs so we just looked from afar. We could go into the grounds of the lovely little 12th Century St Peters Parish Church.

The downside of being so remote is spring water and washing your teeth and having a shower in brown tinged water that smells metallic. 25 minutes drive though and we stopped at Bramburgh Beach instead of the castle. 32 to park for the day. There was a Westie gathering and oh my gosh, they were everywhere! We walked through the dunes to the beach and hadn't quite expected the crowds. It's fabulous though that Northumberland beaches allow doggies.

We walked along the shoreline and Penny and I had a paddle. I tried the same with Sailor and gosh he ran away from the wave, he hated it. I must admit, it was freezing. How on earth were the children just in swimming costumes! We walked and walked and reached the castle. To get there, we decided to climb a really steep dune, one of those where it's one step up and then you sink backwards.

Bamburgh castle also doesn't allow dogs so instead we walked around the outside and down the green for a great view of the extensive castle on a big headland. Seahouses crab roll and a Northumberland cheese and pickle sandwich was consumed while sat on the most amazing lawn. The doggies had a nap and then it was time to head back to the car along the beach. The doggies were shattered by the time we got back but when you live in Cambridgeshire, you need a good dose of beach and seaside sometimes.
