Nene Valley railway and the Peterborough surprise

I can’t explain it but I really must have been a trainspotter in a past life. When we won the Loves Farm community quiz and the prize was a family ticket to the Nene Valley steam railway, it was like Christmas. The station is so quaint, with Percy and Thomas in the yard, the only remaining mail carriage from the great train robbery and lots of old memorabilia scattered around.

We boarded the train and choo choo, off went to Peterborough. We took a walk to find the town, through 2 deserted car parks, under railway bridges complete with graffiti and a homeless person, I don’t think it’s the best approach to Peterborough but the town rather surprised us. It’s very picturesque and the Cathedral is mind blowingly gorgeous. A definite must return place. Nene Valley railway was definitely worth it although next time we might pick our carriage and not choose the ones with creaming children. We are finally exploring Cambridgeshire.
