Iceland wedding: Team Shackell, Saunders, Elvis and Fiances at the airport
What a day! With the entire wedding packed in suitcases, and a very traumatic night packing my gorgeous crease free dress into a bag the size of a postage stamp, Ali only having 4 hours sleep becuase she was at her Grandmothers fruneral yesterday in Paris....we were finally off back to Iceland, a country we absolutely adore. At St Neots train station, it was quite amazing to thing that our wedding was in 4 suitcases. We hadn't of got to London and Team Saunders were already at the airport having a coffee! Crossed London without problems, had races on the trolleys when we got to terminal 1, and checked in. My case was overweight! 20.8kg! We waited for Team Shackells and Team Elvis to arrive, then onto Departures and Security. I've never seen anyone have a trolley for hand luggage but when you saw how much the clan had, you would know why.
After shopping and a little chatting, it came to leaving and we were missing something...nobody had Caitlins rucksack. It was getting close to the time, Sally and Cous Cous had to go back to security while the group split, some were on the plane, some in the departures, some in security...then the gate was closing! But we were all on the plane, then came the crazy hand luggage escapade, luckily the cabin crew took pity on us and took our wedding clothes and put them in the cupboard at the back but then told me I had to put my rucksack with laptop, rings, marriage certificates, jewllery, tiara in the hold! Oh no no no no, so I hid it under my seat and tried to cover it in my oversized trousers :)
It was Olivia and Caitlins first flight and they were absolutely fine. It was lovely to explain the process as we walked to the carousel. Everything was new for them. We said our goodbyes, found our car, and off to the Northern Light Inn, next door to the Blue Lagoon.
No snow on the ground whatsoever, it's not even that cold! Fingers are tightly crossed for the Northern Lights tonight....
