Honeymoon – Indiana Shackell-Smiths and real hot chocolate.

I think I’m still a little jet lagged, as when we got two stops away on the tube, I was wracking my brain whether I put the Ipad in the safe, and if you saw where we are staying and the 2 people we have seen unconscious outside our hotel, you would see why I had to go back and check. So, back on track, onto Central station and on the train to the Blue Mountains. I was really looking forward to getting out the city, and away from congestion. We took the Blue Mountains train that stopped at every lamp post and post box, but it was so nice to see other parts of Australia.

After 2 hours, we reached Katoomba and boarded the Explorer Bus, bought for us by Ali’s colleagues at the RSPB. It’s such a quaint town. We first got off at Scenic World, to take the Skywalk over the canopy, with it’s glass floor. We then took the steepest train in the world. We should have realised when we got in the train and the seats were at a strange angle. No seat belts, and an open door so I didn’t think it would be quite so scary, but it was. We did a vertical drop while the theme tune from ‘Indiana Jones’ played. We then walked through the rainforest on the boardwalks, looking at the local flora and got to see the elusive Lyre bird, with a male chasing another male off it’s territory.

We then boarded the cableway, a cable car back up to the Scenic World station. The views across the Blue Mountains were amazing, just like being in ‘I’m a celebrity, get me out of here’. The next stop was to the chocolate company for ‘real hot chocolate’ where they give you a candle, with cup over it, hot milk and chocolate drop. You drop the chocolate in the cup and drink it thorugh a straw…heaven. We then walked to Echo Point, lookouts and Honeymoon Point (of course). Back on the bus to continue the tour, then dinner in Katoomba, and train back to Sydney. It was great to get out of the congestion of Sydney and breath fresh air on our last full day in Australia. Tomorrow, New Zealand.
