Well, I could have honestly done another flight. The big
difference for me between economy and business is that in business, I don’t
want to get off the plane! You have everything you need, food delivered to you,
a bed, TV with loads of films on it. Business class leave the plane first,
however, being ahead of everyone else didn’t last long as Ali left her jumper
on the plane. This is turning into a tradition! Even at 8am, the terminal was
already boiling. We had fast track passes through customs, quarantine and
before we knew it, we were in Australia. Very different to ‘Passport Patrol’
and ‘Nothing to Declare’ on the TV.
We boarded the train into town, found out hotel and checked
in, at 8:30am. Surprisingly, we were allowed our room. When I opened the
curtains, oh my gosh! We have a harbour view room looking straight at the
Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge! The view is absolutely amazing. We
finally had a wash after 48 hours in the same clothes, then off for our first
wedding gift, from Sam and Caroline. A trip on the hop on/ hop off city
sightseeing tour. It’s all our brains and bodies could manage today.
We first boarded the Bondi Beach tour, which was ok, it took
us out to Bondi Beach and we could see the surfers in the water. We drove
through neighbourhoods that resembled the set of neighbours. Then we switched
buses to board the City tour, which took is around Darling Harbour, the bridge,
the opera house. It was good, but incredibly repetitive as on some bits of the
tour, the city and bondi buses do the same route, with the same commentary. At
AUS$40, it’s not cheap, and I’m sure you should get just as much from walking
the route. I find Sydney a funny mixture, of old-ish and lots of modern
combined, quite a few run down areas…and more people wearing flip flops than I’ve
seen in my whole life!
Back to the hotel for a nap and marvel at the view.
