Hostels really are noisy. Empire backpackers is quite unlike
any hostel I’ve been in, our entire floor has older people on it. Not what you
usually expect in hostels. On the road, our first stop was Dansey’s pass, 27km
of winding narrow track with vertical drops off of the road. Ali drove. It was
a gorgeous view into the valleys though, but I’m glad it wasn’t me doing the
driving.
Our activity today was curling! Nasby has an international
curling rink. We had to watch a DVD first, then on with the rubber shoes and on
the ice. It’s colder than we first thought but great fun. One practice round,
then we were scoring. With just a slight tweak in the hand, the stone can go
off in all manner of directions. The sweeping makes you quite out of breath too
but it was amazing fun, absolutely loved it and Ali and I vow to find a curling
rink in the UK for all of the family to try, it was great and good for the arm
muscles. Walking on ice was just like walking on the pavement surprisingly.
We checked into the Wedderburn Inn for the night.
