I’m still feeding the sandfly population, today’s conveyor
belt of swollenness means that I can’t bend my hand! But I have my 4th
finger back which is good. The first bit of our Dart Wilderness safari took us
on a 4WD through tracks and rivers. We visited many Lord of the Rings scenes
and saw numerous rainbows. Our thanks to Jean-Louis and Danielle, as well as
Anne and family, and Sylv and Steve for the fantastic trip.
After the drive, we took a forest walk to look at native
trees. It’s quite strange, everywhere we have been to date has had travellers
on the road for a while. However, as Queenstown has an international airport,
everyone on the trip was so fresh having just arrived in New Zealand. I fed the
sandfly as we waited for our next transport, a jet boat.
We were on the jet boat for 1.5 hours which was amazing. We
went up the river, then 360 turns, then back down the river to Glenorcy. All
the while, we looked at the most amazing scenery. The river was incredly cloudy
due to the flooding, and I was absolutely soaked at the back of the boat, but
it didn’t matter, we loved every second.
We were buzzing after the wilderness safari. We then had to
drive to Wanaka over an incredibly steep mountain pass. We arrived in time to
watch Les Miserables at the Cinema Paradismo which has sofa’s for chairs which
was very comfy. The film was fantastic. I do love a film that has an
intermission to stretch the legs. Dinner in Speights Alehouse, then bed. We love
Wanaka, much more of an adult Queenstown with quietness and serenity.
