We started the day at Beaumaris Castle and free entry thanks to our English Heritage cards. A beautiful castle in a wonderful settings, looking over the Menai Strait to Snowdonia National Park. The castle was built by Edward I but alas never finished as he then set his sights on Scotland. So it never reached its intended height. And accepts dogs which is fab.
Our reason for being in Beaumaris was to join the Seacoast Safaris Puffin Island Cruise. What a treat. Dogs allowed but Ali had to lift Penny over the jetty to get down to the pier which isn't easy with a greyhound who is all legs. The day was so clear that we could see for miles and had spectacular views on each side of the boat. We saw puffins, cormorants, kittiwakes, razorbills, seals, gulls, shags and hundreds of guillemots. The island is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Protection Area. we were astounded at how many birds we saw. What a wonderful cruise with Seacoast Safaris who were super informative and helpful.
On the way back, a short photo stop at llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch . Free car parking for patrons of the shop next door. It doesn't take too long to take a snap of the station so a wander around the department store added to the stop.
