We just couldn't get any wetter

We really really couldn't get any wetter if we stood under a shower with our clothes on. The camping trip to the Brecon Beacons actually started very well with Al and I arriving at lunchtime on the Friday and then having a siesta for 3 hours. After dinner we discovered that the family opposite stole our picnic table!!!

As usual, I woke up very early, good job as Rae and Jue arrived before 9am. While I was in the shower Al and Jue put up the tent while directed by Rae and Archie sat on chairs eating brekkie. That's the life :) We had brekkie and then it was off to do our mountaineering impersonation by going up Fan Y Big or Big fanny as Rae seems to like to call it.

In the evening we had the age old British tradition of BBQ in the rain....did we continue with the BBQ? Of course we did, under umbrellas. You have to picture me in waterproof coat, Al holding umbrella over one BBQ, Jue holding umbrella over another BBQ and we were all having a merry old time.

And then it rained and rained and rained and rained. All day! We went on the Brecon Mountain railway cos it was indoors and then drove to Brecon to visit lots of closed shops. Al and I drove over the Black Mountains and as we came back, Rae and Jue were packed up and ready to go. We were supposed to stay for 4 nights but after 2 we were drenched, had no way of drying clothes and were frozen so it was back to Bristol and our warm beds.

However, our holiday continued with a day trip to Brean and an icecream on the beach followed by a trip to our favorite tea shop in Cheddar for a gentlemans cream tea of cheese scones and chutney. A good end to a very wet weekend.

Olivia Louise Shackell - 2nd birthday

What must the Gunningham family think of the Shackells when we spent Olivia's 2nd birthday having races in Olivia's toy cars? We had swing ball competitions where I was prone to a scream or two as the ball hurtled towards me at a zillion miles per hour. The car races started when my not so little brother sat on one of the cars. Then followed Liv in one car, Hayden on another, dad on another and Cous Cous had the trike as he we classified him as the smallest (suprise suprise). Liv had sneaky tactics tho as she cut up cous cous which lead to Hayden winning. Livs birthday cake was pretty much as big as her and we stupidly let Hayden cut the cake so we each had an 1/8 th of a monster cake in a balti dish. That's what I love about my brother, his attention to detail.
